ST: Protecting Upland Habitat & Endemic Species

Targeted expansion and protection of identified priority refugial areas, to improve resilience of upland endemic wildlife species to the impacts of changing climate.

Why it is important?

Upland endemic species face particular threats from climate change. As temperatures rise they have nowhere cooler to migrate to. There is also the potential for increased competition from other species moving into their habitats.

Examples of Local Action

  • Collaborative major revegetation projects at Lemuroid Leap, Dirran’s End and Misty Mountains Nature Refuges. These locations are adjacent to large, intact forest and provide connections between forested areas.
