Interactive Mapping Tools
Access a range of interactive mapping tools for the Wet Tropics, designed to allow you to explore useful mapping layers and make your own maps – they are a sandbox of map exploration tools. You can query, search, print, annotate (draw on), rearrange the layers, turn layers on and off, play with layer transparency, view the attributes of the layers and more… The one thing you cannot do is contribute data or information. Whilst you can annotate the map by drawing on it, all annotations are temporary and are not saved or kept. Project Mapping Portals
If you would like to collect, upload, edit and save your own data, support and training is available for custom-built project mapping portals for community groups. Please contact us for more information. Many groups are finding their own mapping portal useful as a way of recording, presenting and reporting on on-ground activities, like wildlife sightings, weed and fire management or revegetation activities.
Getting Started
The interactive mapping tools on this page are built using ESRI ArcGIS Online. It is pretty easy to use, but to ensure you get the most out of it, some helpful tips have been compiled into a very short document. CLICK HERE to open these instructions.
 This map contains a variety of NRM related datasets and is a great map to have a look at if you are not sure where to start. You can use it to search and find properties, see the aerial photo basemap, look at soil types and land uses in the surrounding area or calculate the length or area of a project site or property. Great for work and play – plan your favourite mountain bike or hiking route, check out potential fishing spots or find your own home or property! |
 This map brings together a wide range of information on terrestrial biodiversity and landscape connectivity into a one-stop-shop biodiversity map. View important corridors and habitat for endangered species, like the Southern Cassowary and the Mahogany Glider; measure how close your project site is to protected areas or significant vegetation; or use it to help plan your next biodiversity project. |

 The data in this map focuses on our fresh water systems, including creeks and rivers, wetlands and water quality. Find information from the Wet Tropics Water Quality Improvement Plan, important wetlands, seagrass habitat or risk assessments for a range of waterways. |
Native Title Vision Mapping
This map is accessed through the National Native Title Tribunal and provides spatial information for Traditional Owner groups and links to contact details through the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations. |

 Project Mapping in our Region This map gives a good overview of ‘who does what where’ in NRM in the Wet Tropics. It shows current and past NRM related projects and will continue to be updated as more project data becomes available. |
 Researchers have used the latest scientific climate projections to find the areas which provide the best biodiversity outcomes under changing climatic conditions, as well the best areas for sequestering carbon. This map displays areas with high potential as climate refuges and for carbon sequestration. |

Most of the data used for producing these maps is available from the Queensland Government through qspatial. Where available, some local datasets, such as Mission Beach Cassowary mapping, have also been included.

 Biomaps includes a collection of the Queensland Government’s biodiversity related information, such as regional ecosystems, wetlands, vegetation management, priority wildlife and biodiversity assessments. Biomaps can be used to generate biodiversity related reports; search, display and query spatial information; access and export wildlife records from WildNet and more. |
 The Queensland Globe is an online interactive tool that turns physical, geographical and spatial data about a particular location into map format. Use the Globe to access over 600 spatial data layers on Queensland roads, rail, property, topography, mining and exploration, land valuations, land parcel information, water levels and more. |

 The National Native Title Tribunal produces a series of native title themed maps which can be used for presentations or downloaded for printing. |
 Aerial photographs of Queensland at various scales can be viewed online using QImagery or purchased directly. More than 800,000 historical aerial photographs dating back to the 1930s have been digitised and are free to download. |

 The Reef Globe allows users to view and explore the Great Barrier Reef’s spatial data and imagery. It provides access to a variety of data about land based activities which affect the water quality of the Reef. |
