ST: Addressing Human-related Threats to Wildlife

Work with state and local governments to develop mitigation strategies for vehicle strike and attacks by wild and unrestrained domestic dogs.

Why it is important?

This region has very unique and special wildlife. Healthy populations of these animals are vital for maintaining ecosystem health, supporting the ecotourism sector and for the health and well being of humans. Addressing direct human-related threats (eg. vehicle strike, domestic dog attacks, deforestation) to wildlife will ensure wild animals remain an integral part of the Atherton Tablelands.

Examples of Local Action

  • Trial of roadside signage to inform drivers of recent tree-kangaroo vehicle strike.
  • Collaborative approach with Tablelands Regional Council to promote responsible dog ownership.
